Hi All! As we are getting ready to leave for our trip later this afternoon, I thought that I would take a few minutes to share with y’all what we are packing to go on a 3 1/2 week long journey to Australia.
We are obviously traveling in June and July, which is winter in Australia and that means that it is going to be cool with some rain. Temps during the day look like they are going to be mid 50’s to low 60’s in most of the places that we will be visiting. Maybe a little warmer in Queensland. At nighttime the temps will be dropping into the 30’s, so we need to pack accordingly.
First of all, you can’t forget what you need in your carryon bag. I travel often, so I keep a carry on bag packed all of the time and I never take anything out of it, so when I am ready to travel, I just add in a couple of things and the bag is ready to go at a moments notice. In that I always carry the following:
- Charging cords for my phone, iPad, watch, headphones
- bluetooth headphones and headphones that plug in to a source as a backup
- a good book and/or magazines
- Guide book specific to area you are visiting
- iPad downloaded with tv programs or movies to keep me entertained
- cellphone
- pens and paper
- gum and hard candy
- snacks
- jacket or sweatshirt
- sunglasses and glasses
- umbrella
- a carry case full of necessities, such as lotion, Kleenex, floss, heartburn medication, Tylenol, dramamine, nail file, nail clippers, tweezers, cough drops, cold medication, Neosporin, bandaids, eye drops, mini deodorant, face masks to keep the germs away from me, hand sanitizer and lysol wipes
- compression socks (for long flights)
- Medications
- wallet/purse (I always travel with a very small clutch purse and fit this into my carry on bag to keep me under my minimum carry on’s if I have my camera bag with me).
On long trips or trips to interesting locations where I have time to explore, I always bring my camera bag with my camera and lenses, extra batteries, etc.
Since we have to pack for a wide range of temperature variations and climates since we will be traveling all over Australia, we limited our items to a few of each and plan to do laundry at least a few times during our travels.
In our suitcases you will find:
- Sunscreen and aloe
- Bug Spray

- Workout clothes (enough for 4 days, which means I will be doing a lot of laundry). I work out every day when I am traveling, no matter where I am. I especially need this while traveling since I won’t be eating as well as I should be.

- Water Shoes
- Swimsuits and coverups
- 2 pair shorts
- 2 pair long workout pants
- 3 tank tops

Whew! I started packing on Friday, and today is Monday, but I wanted to make sure that it was a nice slow process, so that as I remembered things I could write them down on my checklist so that I wouldn’t forget them like I would if I were in a rush to hurry up and get packed (like Rich that is still in the other room packing as I type this and we leave in one hour). Let’s see what he forgets! lol. 😉
